We are nearing completion of the environmental management activities begun in 1998 that entailed resource and energy conservation at our business sites.
In fiscal 2003, the final year of these activities, as we continue our steady progress in the areas of resource and energy conservation as well as green purchasing, the adoption of ISO 14001 standards in the service industry is accelerating and customers are judging companies on the basis of their environmental initiatives and the level of environmental management.
Amid such developments, we have worked to ensure that environmental initiatives are fully implemented at our offices in 132 regions nationwide, and have adopted the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) management cycle to effect continuous improvements. In addition to these activities, we have put a strong emphasis on environmental education.
Based on the results of activities taken in fiscal 2003, the last year of the current mid-term action plan, by shifting our environmental objectives and targets, we will expand programs aimed at furthering environmental management, thereby raising overall management quality.
Specifically, we will work to take effective action in two areas that are closely relatedmaking a social contribution through environmental volunteer activities and promoting the environmental health and safety.
Environmental Report 2003, which outlines the results of activities undertaken in fiscal 2002, is being published slightly earlier than its predecessor, which was published in September 2002.
With the help of honest feedback from the reports readers, we at NEC Fielding will continue to strive toward the realization of environmental management that results in effective environmental initiatives.
