This era of high growth, characterized by mass consumption and mass waste, has spawned global warming and other forms of environmental destruction.
What can we do to ensure that we will be able to pass on an earth that has no replacement to our descendants?
As individuals, it is natural that we should always work toward global environmental conservation; certainly there is even more that corporations and corporate citizens can do toward conserving the environment.
At NEC Fielding, we have been dealing with this issue for 17 years, ever since our environmental management activities commenced in 1986.
In that time, we acquired ISO 14001 certification in 1999, which also marked the establishment of a five-year mid-term environmental action plan.
The current mid-term plan ends in the current fiscal year, and fiscal 2004 will signal the start of the development of new activities.
In June 2003, we created a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee to establish a structure that would contribute to a sustainable society and enable us to fulfill our social responsibility, clearly defining goals and targets for specific activities.
This report outlines the results of activities undertaken in fiscal 2002, and it is our sincere hope that it will aid readers in gaining an understanding of the various environmental conservation activities in which we are engaged.

I consistently stress to employees how crucial it is for each and every one of them to carry out business activities with a strong commitment to environmental protection.
I firmly believe that if employees conduct their business activities with a constant awareness of the environment in every facet of the support services that we provide, it will contribute to environmental conservation as well as make a difference, however little, in the creation of a sustainable society. This is why, from menu development and solutions proposals to services, we offer consistently environmentally sound products and support services as well as grasp numerical value of the effects of proactive initiatives. In the current fiscal year, we will work to create a specific system to confirm level of our contribution to environmental conservation and that of environmental management, after which it will be tested in certain departments.

In keeping with our fiscal 2002 Policy on Social Contribution Activities we have set up donation boxes for the Japan Guide Dog Association, by the kind offer of the organization, at all of the Companys offices. Donation drives included enlightenment activities through such means as Company news outlets. We strove to inspire employees support for this cause by promoting the collection of donations at all 400 of our nationwide offices as a Companywide social contribution program.
In August 2002, as our first remittance, we sent the donations collected to train guide dogs to the Japan Guide Dog Association. The Companys donation, totaling ¥551,441, comprised an employee contribution of approximately ¥80 per employee, and a company contribution that matched it. The money was presented to the Kanagawa Training Center of the Japan Guide Dog Association on November 11, 2002.
Words of thanks from the Japan Guide Dog Association included their wish to create a lasting relationship with the Company.
