My name is Toru Katayama and I am the president of NEC Fielding.
I am truly thankful that you are taking the time to read this CSR Report 2007.
It has been more than one year since I was appointed president of NEC Fielding in June of 2006. During that year, while carefully identifying the Companyfs management structure and business environment, I quickly took necessary management reforms. In addition, checking in detail of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, we firmly set both customer satisfaction (CS) and CSR as the foundation of sustainable growth.
We, the IT service business provider, consider the improvement of customer satisfaction the core of business growth, and by promoting CSR activities we will fulfill a more broadly defined duty of social responsibility. We think that rapid improvement of CS and promotion of CSR activities without delaying either one is the driving force for increasing the corporate quality, and characteristic management style that creates competitive advantage.
I hope that you understand this background and check our CSR activities in this report.
NEC Fielding established a CSR Committee in May 2003 and anew became aware of the significance and importance of CSR-related efforts as a result of studying the essence of CSR. The Committee was composed of the president at that time, who acted as the committee chair, and all corporate officers and main general managers involved in related operations served as members. Discussions continued for two years, and CSR-related efforts were expanded throughout the company.
I would like to take a quick look at how discussions and actions developed. The CSR activity policy was established in December 2003 and an activity framework was created for each field (component CSR factor) - governance/accountability, market, employment, society, and environment. Based on this framework, activity guidelines, concrete measures, and activity indicators for each field were set, and then in February 2005, a company-wide CSR medium-term plan was created, and efforts included in this three-year plan were launched.
The CSR medium-term plan is revised each year, and activities are undertaken in order to meet the expectations of all stakeholders by running through the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act) while taking into consideration changes in the environment.
The following are the main points of the medium-term plan - (1) continually strengthen activities with the goal of zero risk, (2) implement and expand CSR in the core business, (3) improve employee satisfaction and morale, (4) contribute to society in a manner that continues to steadily expand; (5) reach the 2010 environment management targets. This year, which is the final year of the medium-term plan, we are promoting discussions so that the whole NEC Fielding and its group companies and major partner companies can work together to undertake these activities. At any rate, we think that CSR should be part of all corporate activities, and we will be able to satisfy all stakeholders by focusing on the business environment that is changing globally and continuing to respond flexibly, not simply achieving goals during the time covered by the plan.
In addition, I always say that I do not want people to forget the attitude gdo things open and aboveboardh when conducting daily business, including these efforts. While it is said that the Japanese economy is continuing to steadily recover, it cannot be said that a tail wind is blowing for NEC Fielding, which is in the IT service industry, and it is often difficult to improve earnings.
However, I always say that we should increase earning not by means of cheap tricks but by taking a proactive attitude for more creative and more energetic work place. If we thoroughly implement gopen and aboveboardh business, there will be trials that we will have to endure, but the energy for endurance will be transformed into creativity and a competitive spirit that sharpen each other. I believe this will lead to a healthy corporate culture that enlivens both the work place and the whole company. |
As shown in the above figure, stakeholder expectations and values change, grow and develop with the time and generation. We, NEC Fielding, in response to the expectation of all these shareholders, are aiming to become a corporation that always makes people feel confidence and satisfaction and that provides new value by our open and aboveboard attitude.
Thanks to our customers, the company celebrated its 50-year anniversary in March 2007. We have received our customersf loyal patronage for a half century and have grown on account of our customers, and I hope we will continue to always be a company that can share both peace of mind and happiness with our customers.
I hope for your continued warm guidance and greater support. |
