| Voluntary Training Support System |

| Our provisions for support of voluntary training rest on the idea that the individual will to acquire capabilities must be at the basis of human resource development. In this spirit, we offer all employees opportunities for self-betterment and assume part of the expense burden. Employees who successfully complete courses can receive funds for up to half of the cost. We have prepared courses in a diversity of fields, including management, basic business skills, accounting, linguistics, qualification acquisition, and hobby-type areas.

| Domestic gstudy abroadh system |

| We have instated a scheme to enable employees so desiring to pursue studies at schools in Japan. Under this scheme, we send employees to universities, graduate schools, research institutions, and other bodies of adult education to acquire advanced knowledge and technology, as needed to improve their capabilities and develop their careers. We have sent one or two employees for such education every year since the scheme's instatement in fiscal 1993. |

In work supported by advanced technology, defects with complex products and systems at times cause major damage to society, and quality assurance activities that aim to ensure quality for society and consumers have extremely important. In addition, at NEC Fielding, we undertake quality assurance activities for IT services from the customerfs perspective through a corporate culture of gcustomer firsth based on field work at the side of the customer. Therefore, I took a course on information system operation management at the graduate school of the University of Electro-Communications. At the school I researched reliability management technology methods and engineering methods that employ FMEA and FTA, but mainly researched management technology with a focus on maintainability. Attending school after having worked for a while caused me to alter my perspective and views on things, and this was an extremely valuable experience. In the future, I want to not only ensure basic quality to prevent failures but also take a forward-looking attitude regarding customer complaints and dissatisfaction about quality and also strive to think of product-driven products that will resolve the issues. |

I belong to the in-house Education Department and train professions who help customers solve their problems. Security has become a factor that affects the fate of an organization. Recently, security has come to have an extremely broad meaning. In the past, security referred to items such as firewalls, IDS, and computer virus counter measures. However, recently it has come to include the management of issues such as information leak prevention, physical security, and BCP. Even if various security countermeasures and management procedures are introduced, there are limits to the benefits from simply introducing them. In order to maintain and manage security, security measures must be harmonized on a high level, which the market demands. When thinking about harmonized security, I felt that it was necessary to be aware of not only the technology but also auditing, ethics, the legal system, and management. Therefore, I wanted to attend the Institute of Information Security, where I would be able to comprehensively study and research technology, auditing, ethics, legal system, and management of security, making use of the domestic gstudy abroadh system. Many of the students at the Institute of Information Security work on the front line, such as government offices and corporations. Therefore, at classes, there were various activities such as discussions based on the abundant experiences of students. I want to spread the knowledge and ideas I learned through the domestic gstudy abroadh system throughout company and work to train professions who are able to provide the best services to customers. |

| We hold this contest twice a year to award commendations for achievements in departmental performance, CS, environmental preservation, social contribution, and business promotion. The awards are made to individuals and groups for excellence in their work; outstanding deeds in areas such as invention, disaster prevention, and rescue; and superior records in service activities. |

| Best Fielding Contest |

In keeping with our aspiration to rank at the top globally for CS in our services, we hold the Best Fielding Contest twice a year to commend deserving employees. The Contest is aimed at deepening practical abilities to deal with customers, improving technical skills, and heightening motivations and morale. In it, front-line technicians and engineers (including those from partner firms) vie with each other in routine work and results. The winners are sent overseas for training. |

Fielding Best Contest is a competition of competitorfs strength in technical fields, creating proposals, and handling customers, and is based on report writing and conducting a role play about making a report to a customer. Participants are those who placed top in the preliminary written section. The role playing is conducted in front of many guests and supports. Furthermore, this event is broadcast live to offices throughout Japan, creating incredible pressure during the competition. In addition, this was the second time I made it to the finals, and the only way I could better was to win, which added even more pressure but also made the pleasure even greater. I was able to watch the final contest through streaming video, and found many points which impressed me in other peoplefs performance that were different from mine. In May, the champions in each category participated in overseas training, which included many valuable experiences including visiting SUN Microsystems and taking part in INTEROP. The opportunity to interact with people from various departments was also meaningful. |
